ARTISTIC DIRECTOR MARC MASTERSON
In ten seasons of leadership at Actors Theatre, Mr. Masterson has produce more than 200 plays in Louisville, expanded and deepened arts education programs and spearheaded community-based projects, including commissions and site-sepecific productions of regional stories and artists. He is
an award-winning director who enjoys working on new plays as well as innovative productions
of the classics. Actors seasonal directing credits include Greater Tuna, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shipwrecked! An Entertainment, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Tempest, Mary's Wedding, The Crucible, Betrayal, The Importance of Being Earnest and Macbeth.
World premieres directed in the Humana Festival include Wild Blessings: A Celebration of Wendell Berry (co-adapted with Adrien-Alice Hansel), The Unseen, Natural Selection,
The Shaker Chair, After
Ashley, Tallgrass Gothic, The Second Death of Priscilla, Limonade Tous les Jours and
Wonderful World.
Of the more than 100 plays premiered during his tenure, 96% have moved on to subsequent productions around the country. As a producer, he has brought new artists to Louisville audiences and has diversified and energized the repertoire. With more than 100 professional
productions as a director to his credit, other favorites include The
Mystery of Irma Vep by Charles Ludlam (2000), Compleat Female
Stage Beauty by Jeffrey Hatcher (American Theatre Critics citation
1999) and Gross Indecency: Three Trials of Oscar Wilde by Moises
Kaufman (1999).
Mr. Masterson earned his M.F.A. from University of Pittsburgh and a
B.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University. He subsequently taught at both
universities. He currently serves on the Execuitve Committee of Theatre Communications Group. He served as Producing Director of City Theatre in Pittsburgh
for 20 years. He was founder and chairman of the Greater Pittsburgh
Arts Alliance and has served as a panel
member for the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts, National Endowment
for the Arts and other national foundations. Mr. Masterson won the Man of the Year Vectors Award in 1998 and received
the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pittsburgh New Works Festival.
He is married to Patricia Melvin, and they have two daughters Laura

MANAGING DIRECTOR JENNIFER BIELSTEIN
Ms. Bielstein joined Actors Theatre of Louisville in the fall of 2006. As Managing Director she oversees all of the financial, marketing, development and general business operations of the theatre while working in partnership with Artistic Director Marc Masterson. She serves on the board of the National Corporate Theatre Fund, is Vice President of the Arts and Cultural Attractions Council, is Secretary of the League of Resident Theatres, is a member of the 2008 Leadership Louisville class and recently served as a review panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts. Ms Bielstein received the honor of being voted Today's Woman magazine's Most Admired Woman in the Arts and acknowledged in both Louisville Magazine's 15 Metro People to Watch and Business First's 40 Under 40.
Ms. Bielstein moved from Chicago, Ill., where she served as Executive Director of Writers' Theatre. During her tenure there she opened a second venue and more than doubled the operations
of the company including the programming, audiences and revenues. Previously
she worked as Director of Marketing and Communications for Steppenwolf
Theatre Company, where she was responsible for almost $6 million in annual
revenues through ticket sales.
Ms. Bielstein also worked for About
Face Theatre, Northlight Theatre, Apple Tree Theatre and Lincoln Park
Zoo where she helped to create and launch the successful Jammin'
at the Zoo series in 1994. Ms. Bielstein served as an officer of the Board of the League of Chicago Theatres
representing 200 area theatres, and as chair of the League's
Marketing Committee through which she spearheaded development of a city-wide
program to introduce new audiences to theatre.
She was also on the board of the Glencoe Chamber of Commerce, About
Face Theatre and the Producers Association of Chicago-Area
Theatres, and served as a grants review panelist for the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. Ms. Bielstein is a graduate of University
