FOUNDATION SPOTLIGHT

The Kresge Foundation was established in 1924 by Kmart founder Sebastian Spering Kresge with a mission to strengthen non-profit organizations that advance the well-being of humanity. In 2006, The Kresge Foundation awarded Actors Theatre a challenge grant in the amount of $650,000 to support the purchase and renovation of a new production studio, home to the design, construction and storage of the theatre’s scenic elements and properties. As part of the Next Generation of Excellence Campaign, donors from across the Commonwealth and the world answered the call

Today Actors Theatre inhabits a newly renovated 44,000 square foot warehouse in historic Old Louisville. This new space allows the theatre room to grow and expand, which we are doing daily. For the first time, Actors Theatre's production team is able to dry-fit full-size scenic elements for the Pamela Brown Auditorium at the production studio. The space also offers ample storage space for our vast collection of furniture and props, plus greatly improved and better integrated office space for our theatre artisans. Actors wishes to once again thank The Kresge Foundation and all those who answered its challenge for making a historic difference to the growth of our organization.
