VAUGHN MCBRIDE SCHOLARSHIP FUND Vaughn McBride was an Actors Theatre Resident Company Member
and also a founding member of Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, Conn. He acted, wrote plays, taught and directed, becoming
an importance presence in Louisville for more than 20 years.
Louisville audiences remember Vaughn fondly for his 18 years as a
high-stepping Mr. Fezziwig in A Christmas Carol. Perhaps
his greatest contributions to the community lie in the Apprentice/Intern Company which he established, and
in the plays he wrote for and with local students at Walden Theatre
and elsewhere. Vaughn co-founded Walden Theatre’s Young Playwrights
Program in 1981 and published several collections of monologues for
young actors, which are still used today. His
plays, Let’s Us, The New Girl, Good Old Boy and Elba, were produced
at Actors Theatre, Manhattan Theatre Club and elsewhere. He retired
to Salt Lake City where he died in November 2001.
